Remember our discussion about growing grapes....

Do you remember a blog back in February, about how they are changing the idea of how to plant vines in the local area? It was in the blog called: "Changing ideas", http://laura-todayonmywanderings.blogspot.com/2007/02/changing-ideas.html.

In that blog I talk about the growers ripping out their old grape vines and preparing to replant, but no longer in the old way, from top to bottom, but across the hill. Today Clover and I decided to go back and see what has transpired over the Spring. We have been able to see a scar on the mountain from Ladenburg, but a closer look was needed.

It is pretty amazing the amount of earth that was moved in order to begin again in the "New way".

View from the Weinbergen...Ladenburg...

While on my walk through the budding wine this morning...I thought you might enjoy seeing my Ladenburg from that height. You can see in the background the Deutsche Weinstrasse, (German wine route) as a low mountain range. Directly in the middle you can see the double spires of the Galus church at the center of our town and also the famous water tower which stands along side the Neckar river, where Clover swims.

What to do on May Day...

This morning I was blissfully cleaning my fridge when I received an email inviting me on a small hike in the weinbergen (wine hills). Of course...being one not to shirk my household responsibilites....I quickly shoved everything back in the fridge, packed up the dog...jumped into shorts and RAN out of the house. :) One does not discover nature in the back of their fridge...well, at least one hopes not to discover nature there...one must be out in nature. So there I went...side kick in the front seat with nose shoved into the blowing air vent.
I joined up with my dog teacher and friend Helga, her partner Dirk and another lovely family and 7 happy 4 footers.
After a quick stroll in the budding grapes and a little clicker training we were treated to a beautiful grill party on the terrace.
