So...last night we took the tree down. I think that is the first time we have ever taken the tree down before...well, to be honest...around March. What can I saw...we like having the tree up. So, the tree is resting quietly in the backyard waiting for it's final usage...I would think the Germans will make mulch out of the poor thing. It was a free range tree, (we chopped it down at a tree farm) so I know it had a good life prior to it's purpose of decorating my dinning room.
I woke up this am and realize in my excitement to make a blog...I left out an important visit we had this week from my husbands cousin who inspired me to create this blog...Walter. We have not seen him in many years so it was a nice surprise to hear he was in Europe and wished to come by for a few days. Walter....how to describe Walter...he is his own person, a free spirit who realized the path he was on was not the path that would bring his soul...happiness. So, he is off to be "with the people" and discover the world. We are proud of his great step forward and wish him....safe travel.
While Walter was..."With US people" we didn't do a ton of traveling as he was about to begin wtih a tour group and had just finished a visit to both Paris and London, but we did get to drop by my husbands favorite winery in Weisenheim on the wein strasse here so we bought wine and headed to a great city called Speyer.
We were lucky that they were holding their Christmas market into the New Year so we had a nice evening walking through their market...where Walter discovered...Glühwein, (warm mulled wine) which is the traditional drink at Gerrman Christmas markets. I think he called it liquid magic. He discovered it warming properties on another trip to Lorsch to see the Kloister where it wasn't so cold...and I believe he had that tummy warming....head woozy moment. Baptisim by fire. ;)
We also made a trip to Frankenstein castle...or is it really Frankenstien castle. After about an hour of searching, some delicious gas station sandwiches and asking 2 different people the directions....(making me think of Rat race...SHOULDA BOUGHT A SQUIRREL)...we found the place. It was one of those typical German Winter days where it is spitting a bit of rain, but grey..grey..grey...Perfect weather to visit the castle where Mary Shelly created her monster.
I almost forgot...we had time on the last day of our visit to have a nice meal in Heidelberg before putting Walter on his train back to Paris. He was just able to walk up the high street and see the famous Heidelberg castle for a few seconds...I believe his comment on first seeing it was...."WOW"! So I believe he enjoyed it.
I will post a few photos of our visit together and I hope you enjoy them. Walter is also creating a blog but he is doing the photo documentation himself and he has just purchased a mini tripod...which I believe is now his real traveling companion, so you will see them both in many a photo.
Time to clean up from the holidays....ok, so after a few cups of coffee...and I do think the dog needs to be brushed....and perhaps a bath....and....
