Here I sit after yet another fantastic outing with my sidekick Clover....SUPER WHEATEN!! No, actually I planned this day for myself...to get out in the fresh air, burn calories and make some new friends. I joined the American Women's Club on another of my...WANDERUNGS. Now you all know what that means I do not need to describe it...boy, you all are getting so international.
So, it was an early start this morning...even earlier for me as I could not sleep the whole night for some reason. It could be that I have a new man in my bed this week...oh, don't go there, my husband is away and I have let my trusty companion, (notice I have not said BEST FRIEND once yet in this post) sleep in the "big bed" that is dog for bed NOT on the floor. Basically he turned into a beast three times his size and was snoring like a train coming into the station. I tried everything to no avail. Finally I just got up early and got rolling.
My girlfriend Sol, from Venezuela was dropped off at my house at O'dark thirty and we traveled onto this adventure together. Clover was very excited as I had been telling him we would be meeting up with one of his female dog friends...Bella. You met Bella earlier and her human, Ellen.
All the ladies, dressed in flannel and a million layers, met up in Heidelberg where we began our wandering...on foot to see Celtic ruins on the hillside...and also..some reminants from the old third Reich days. No, not everything has been obliterated. Hey it is history good or bad....we need to preserve these things so that we NEVER FORGET. If you are interested there is a great website for people who love history and are living here in Germany. It is:http://www.thirdreichruins.com
Really is worth checking it out.
It was an interesting morning...the weather person was predicting snow....our first touch of real Winter all year. It was the coldest day yet....and we did have flurries. Needless to say...EVERYONE was cold....no one more than my poor little tropical climatized friend...Sol. Her nose actually turned blue...never have seen that before.
We did great despite the weather and accomplished the hike in an hour. We had a blast walking, talking and meeting each other while Bella and Clover raced back and forth...Bella checking for wildlife to chase and Clover...on the girls...he is a type of herding dog you now. Likes to keep his ladies in a pack.
We had fantastic views of the castle in Heidelberg...still amazing that the forsythia is blooming. Spring will be interesting this year...I actually took photos of fruit trees blooming this week before this snap. We also saw the ruined cloister of St Micheal which was at the very top. On our way we climbed up the many stone steps covered in green moss of the Third Reich Open air amphitheater....the sign says "Made by Volunteer workers..." guess that is what they call it now. Hmmm. Still very interesting.
At 11:00, we took our many frozen fingers and faces....even some frozen fur into the local Hut in the woods. There were many happy faces when the frothy mugs of hot Cocoa with whipped cream or like what i had...coffee, with whipped cream...and...brandy, were delivered.
After we all thawed nicely it was time to head back out in the weather....but bolstered by our many noshes...we were prepared.
I belive a great time was had by all....enjoy the many photos.
I promise a NON DOGBLOG soon,
Tschüß,
