Mercedes Benz and Ladenburg....what do they have in common you say?

Well, Carl Benz the creator of the Mercedes Benz lived and died right here in my little village...he is buried just up the street actually.

So, today was the annual gathering of the "Old Timer" Mercedes Benz Club. Cars came from all over, I saw plates from Switzerland in the bunch...I am sure they came from even farther. Of course in German fest fashion....everything was terribly civilized, they turned the large green area along the river under the famous Ladenburg water tower, into a display area and mini camp ground. There were places to buy food and drinks OF COURSE, other vendors were there displaying their period items to go along with your "Old Timer" car.

If you want to know more about Carl Benz and Ladenburg, here is a great site:

The little old sign is cool and still appropo. And I can just imagine loading up one of those picnic baskets into the car and then parking along the side of the road to nosh, in true German fashion. Lots of cool stuff in that little village of yours. Mons was never that interesting - or picturesque!
