We have just arrived back from another whirl wind trip to France...this time completing Dale, our nephews, life long dream of seeing the Normandy beaches. Being a huge history buff, it was impossible for us not to take him to experience all that Normandy has to offer.
We stayed in a hotel 200 meters off of Omaha beach so each day we were created by it's magesty. Many times when the tide is out you are still able to see the relics of the many boats and other materials still left in the ocean since D-day.
We were able to break the long 8 hour drive once again at our dear French friends, Stephane and Nathalies house outside of Reims making it a much more enjoyable travel. We had many beautiful meals with them when we stopped each way. The boys played many games of Chess and also ping pong in the garden....while us girls talked cooking and the new baby Paul.
It was quite a successful trip as there is so much to see and do, but short of a few museums I believe we put a real dent in it. I am very happy to report that we were surprised to find that the American cemetery, Colleville sur Mer now has an amazing new museum on it's grounds. It is a must see. Dale was even able to slip in a trip to see the Bayeux tapestry on the day we left so he absorbed quite a bit of history...as well as many walks on Omaha beach with Clover.
