Market day...in Mannheim

Today we decided to go to the big city. Mannehim is about 10KMs away from us and is a beautiful city that does not get the introduction it deserves.

Yes, there is a lot of industry in this part of Germany, and Mannheim is the second largest city in the German state of Baden-Württemberg next to Stuttgart, but I think Mannheim is beautiful. I sure hope my photos will support my argument.

It is laid out in a grid like our cities in the US, and in the middle is a huge 18th century palace which is now the University of Mannheim.

Mannheim's city symbol is the Wassterturm (water tower) and it was in this area I spent most of the mid morning enjoying the dancing waters. Clover also enjoyed them but in a more tactile manner. Yes, he jumped in...yet again. BUT he was not alone as another four footed friend joined in.

After enjoying the Wasserturm we walked the many shopping streets. I think Mannheim has some of the best shopping around. I was hunting for a new large canvas and a brush to match. Along the way, with it being Saturday which is market day in Mannheim, I took in the many beautiful sights of the different market stands with equally as colorful vendors. One being my Greek friends who have a stand in Ladenburg two times a week. I was touched today when they called me a Ladenburger! Hey! I am starting to belong somewhere. Liked the sound of that.

While walking around I saw a crowd gathered by a church...I have never seen this before but everyone from the wedding was getting balloons filled with helium and tying wishes to each....I assume to be sent free once the appearance of the bride and groom.

Too many nice ones to comment on them all but I especially like the one of the little boy with the red balloon. Looks like it was a beautiful day.
